IMPROVING HITTING POWER

Now is the time when softball and baseball training begin and, with that, those athletes have a goal of improving their hitting power for their sport.  This goes for athletes who play tennis as well.   Here are 3 ways to help with anyone wanting to improve their hitting power: For youth athlete training or help with an injury, please click HERE or contact Will at Will@truetraining.pro HIGHER SPEED STRENGTH TRAINING Power is basically strength at higher speeds.   Power is improved in a few ways - 1) by improving overall strength, the force able to be generated will be improved, however, the speed will not be improved as much. 2) by adding strength training exercises at higher speeds, these will not improve strength as much, however they will improve power.   I would use both after getting a good strength base and skill of weight trainig first.     Action Step:    add speed to some of your base strength training exercises...with this I would also lower the weight and reps due to the higher demand on the central and muscular system with training at these higher speeds. ADD ROTATIONAL STRENGTH EXERCISES Once a strength base is established you can then add something more specific to their training by adding rotational strengthening.   These exercises can be done with some machines, however, I currently use various bands for resistance and I do this all standing.  Rotational strengthening can add to their rotation power, which is needed for both throwing and hitting in these sports.   Action Step:   contact a nearby strength coach experienced with rotational strengthening and ensure it is progressed appropriately to their routine APPLY NEW SPEED TO HITTING LESSONS This is the outcome we want - added power to their hitting.  So when they get into their hitting / practice season, use this new level of power and skill in hitting.  Once power is improved and there is consistent skill work done too, plan on hitting power being improved a lot!  Action Step:  have the hitting coach view their upgraded power and work with that in their hitting lessons If you have any questions just click HERE or contact me at Will@truetraining.pro  Will Mieding  M.S., CSCS, RTS, MAT Rx1227 Sagamore Parkway North Suite A765-230-3770www.truetraining.pro
