TRAINING FOR BASKETBALL |
When you see basketball players move fast to make a play...that takes talent and training. The training part you will learn about below and will help your athlete move faster with and without the ball. Here are 3 things that can be done to help improve speed for basketball: For youth athlete training or help with an injury, please click HERE or contact Will at Will@truetraining.pro SPEED MECHANICS TRAINING First step with all ground-based speed athletes - get a good speed mechanics base by learning proper straight ahead sprinting and change of direction mechanics. Make those actions, all without a ball, very smooth and efficient. This includes efficient arm and lower body mechanics PLUS having efficient footwork when changing direction. This takes proper training, however. Action Step: contact a nearby speed coach and ask for speed enhancement training SPEED TRAINING WITH A BALL After improving basic speed mechanics, add speed with a ball. With this, you must apply your speed mechanics to your ball drills. This includes: sprints to the basket followed by a pass and lay-up, sprints to a spot followed by a jump shot, sprints with the basketball, drives to the basket with a lay-up, and anything else that is included in your basketball game that can be used for improved speed with the ball. Action Step: add the new speed skills to your game with the ball with new and faster ball drills APPLICATION OF NEW SPEED TO PRACTICE Once you have added better speed mechanics and effort to your game, plus added speed with the ball, its time to add all of these new speed skills to your practices. Apply the new speed to offense, with and without the ball, plus when on defense. The new speed will then become a habit and can be used in games. Action Step: have this new speed applied to every practice, starting with the first practice...and your coaches will all notice the new skills and speed If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment, please click HERE or contact me at Will@truetraining.pro Will Mieding M.S., CSCS, RTS, MAT Rx 1227 Sagamore Parkway North Suite A 765-230-3770 www.truetraining.pro |
