There are ways to improve throwing power in all baseball and softball players. The goal is to reach their max, whatever that is. What the individual has in terms of body type and their genetics, we can't control...yet there are factors we can control and its all outlined nicely in this article
Here are 3 things a baseball and softball player can do to improve throwing power

1) MUSCLE ACTIVATION TECHNIQUES
This is number 1 for a reason. MAT improves muscle function, which is the basis of ALL sport motions and power. So if a thrower wants to improve power, it would make sense to focus on the foundation of it all. And this does not have to include the shoulder / arm only, lets get all the muscles involved with throwing contracting well so the thrower can throw at their max.

2) APPROPRIATE STRENGTHENING
Improving full body strength will improve throwing power. So lower body, trunk, plus upper body strengthening is a good start with improving throwing power. BUT...lets make sure its appropriate as well. The throwing arm, depending on the overall throwing volume should have limited strengthening levels as the rest of the body can probably take on more volume. So strengthening is great, as long as its appropriate for the individual.
Action Step: begin a strength training routine that coincides with the throwing volume
3) DON'T OVERTRAIN
This is HUGE for all throwers. I see a lot of over training with current youth athletes. They are not miniature professionals and all have a limited amount of volume they can handle before they break down. A progressive throwing routine along with an appropriate strength training plan will help minimize over training. MAT can be used in case overtraining did take place too, so keep that in mind.
Action Step: listen to your body, if you are sore after a throwing routine or a workout routine - you most likely over did it....lets be smart with our body and train appropriately
